Furniture Today Names FloBeds an Internet Mattress Pioneer
In 2018, Furniture Today profiled FloBeds as an internet mattress pioneer. The article traced how a small Fort Bragg company went online years before most of the industry, and how Talalay latex became the heart of every FloBed.
Online Since 1995
Dave Turner first put a product online in 1995. It was a pressure-relief waterbed mattress, and he hoped hospitals would find it. Instead, everyday shoppers did. Soon, FloBeds was shipping bed components around the world. That early start is why the magazine called FloBeds an internet mattress pioneer.
A Bed in Boxes, Before “Bed in a Box”
Delivery was the next challenge. Freight lines often did a poor job with home delivery. So Dave designed a foundation that could ship by UPS. As a result, FloBeds could send a complete bed in a few manageable boxes, long before boxed beds became a trend.
From Waterbeds to Talalay Latex
Dave entered the bedding business in 1971 as a summer job, and he never left. At a trade show, he discovered Talalay latex from the company then called Latex International, now Talalay Global. FloBeds began selling Talalay latex beds online in 1997, and by 2005 it was the only latex we sold.

Service Like a Small Town
The article also focused on service. Dewey told the magazine that being online is like living in a small town: if someone has a problem, everyone hears about it. So the goal has always been to make sure each customer’s bed is right for them. That’s also why we offer the Goldilocks Guarantee, so you can change your firmness for the 20-year life of your mattress.
Today, FloBeds still has a showroom in Fort Bragg, but most customers find us online, just as they did in 1995. Browse our natural latex mattress to see how far that idea has come.
