Many mattresses use glue to bond their layers together, and chemical-conscious shoppers often ask what’s in it. Here’s our honest answer about latex mattress glue in a FloBed: most of our beds don’t use any.

Why Glue in a Latex Mattress Matters
Glue matters for two reasons. First, some conventional foam adhesives can release odors and volatile chemicals into the bedroom, especially when the bed is new. Second, you can’t take a glued mattress apart. So when one glued layer wears out, you have to replace the whole bed. That is why we avoid latex mattress glue wherever we can.
Most FloBeds Have No Glue
We build every FloBed from separate layers of natural Talalay latex. The layers sit loose, one on top of another, inside a zippered organic cotton and wool cover. Nothing is glued together. As a result, you can swap a layer to change your firmness, or replace one part instead of the whole bed.
When We Do Laminate Latex
Talalay latex comes in standard sizes. However, some beds need a layer larger than a single piece, most commonly Cal King and custom-size builds. In those cases, we laminate two pieces of latex together to make one layer of the right size. This is the only time a FloBed contains any latex mattress glue.
The Latex Mattress Glue We Use
For that job, we use Simalfa, a non-toxic, water-based foam adhesive. Water-based adhesives avoid the harsh solvents found in many traditional foam glues. In addition, we apply it only along the seam where the two pieces join. That way, the rest of the layer stays pure natural latex.
