Down on the Farm
Owning a business is not an easy task, and it is not for everyone. Dave, the owner of FloBeds, has been in business for over 35 years. It all began one summer while he was attending Stanford in Palo Alto. In 1971 he entered the specialty sleep business in Palo Alto, California as a means to pay for college. After 4 years of political science and waterbeds, Dave opened a second retail store. Since then his business has changed and adapted multiple times. Have you ever taken a second to stop and think about what you are sleeping on? If you have a FloBed you have nothing to worry about, however, not all mattresses are made with the same materials that we use. You spend a third of your life in bed… consider what you’re sleeping on. We were the first to use wool to pass the federal fire standards for mattresses, making our covers chemical free. Organic Cotton is obvious… but we even wash it before quilting it to our organic wool. We even use solid Ponderosa Pine for our slat foundations. Well the journal Cell Reports has found that this may be due to your circadian clock being out of whack. Getting things back in sync could be as easy as picking the right bedtime snack. Researchers have found that eating the right carbohydrate-rich snack at night could help re-set you clock. Carbs increase insulin secretion which stimulates healthy circadian patterns. Listed below are three healthy options, but remember to stick to snack size portions!
Almond Butter on Bread- a slice of whole-grain bread with a tablespoon of almond butter
Cherries- these have approximately 24 grams of carbs per cup
Whole-Grain Crackers- switch chips with a few 100% whole grain crackers

Destination: Andiron Seaside Inn and Cabins
This Friday we are featuring the Andiron Seaside Inn and Cabins. The Andiron is nestled in the woods off of Highway 1 in Little River, California. It is only minutes away from the coastal town of Mendocino where you can find fun shops, fine dining, and amazing coastal views.

This Sunday daylight saving time (DST) begins. We will be changing our clocks to “spring” forward one hour. The purpose of DST is to make better use of natural sunlight. It’s actually a myth that the purpose of the time change was to benefit farmers. DST was enacted as a wartime conservation effort.
