This Sunday daylight saving time (DST) begins. We will be changing our clocks to “spring” forward one hour. The purpose of DST is to make better use of natural sunlight. It’s actually a myth that the purpose of the time change was to benefit farmers. DST was enacted as a wartime conservation effort.
The camps are pretty divided when it comes to debating the effectiveness of DST. One side says it great because it encourages people to spend more time outside in the daylight, which saves energy. However, those against it argue that negative side effects of DST outweigh the energy saving. This camp argues that changing the clocks causes a loss of sleep, lost productivity, and accidents due to drowsy driving.
