As you might know, Flobeds is located in Fort Bragg, CA, a small town nestled between the redwoods and the sea in Northern California. We would love to invite you to join us in celebrating Fort Bragg’s 36th Annual Whale Festival, which honors the migration of the Gray Whale all the way from Baja back to its ancestral feeding grounds in the Bering Sea. It’s the perfect excuse for you to heed nature’s call and get moving, migrating up or down the coast of the Pacific Northwest to spend the weekend in Fort Bragg, California this March 16th – 18th.

Why watch the whales in Fort Bragg? Not only does the small town boast a coastal trail perfect for whale watching—over three miles of walking and running paths along the coastal bluffs—but it is also home to the Noyo Center for Marine Science. The Noyo Center has in its collection the world’s largest Orca on display (a 26ft articulated skeleton of a Killer Whale), and the skeleton of a 73ft Blue Whale that washed onto the Mendocino shores a few years ago. Last year alone, the Noyo Center brought marine science education to over two thousand kids in local schools. And you can see the magic for yourself: the Blue Whale Skeleton will be on display for the 36th Annual Whale Festival! Join locals in a 5K run along the coastal trail, help them preserve the whale bones with an annual painting and preservation session, or just enjoy the local brewery, wineries, and artistry. See ticket info and the full list of activities here: http://mendocinocoast.com/fort-bragg-whale-festival

Flobeds is a proud sponsor of the Noyo Center. In honor of the whale festival, we are offering a five percent discount and a matched donation to the Noyo Center when you purchase one of our personally crafted latex mattresses with the code WHALE (enter on FloBeds Cart page above “Noyo”). Want to try out the mattress while you’re in town? Several inns and B&Bs on the coast carry our beds, so you can sleep on it before you buy it. Otherwise, stop by our showroom on Redwood Avenue or visit our website to learn more.

3 Important Spring Cleaning Tips

Spring is right around the corner, which means it is almost time for the big spring cleaning week. Although this can seem like a daunting task, it can feel very rewarding after everything is done. Here are some tips if you are determined to spring forward with a nice clean slate.

Tip 1

Have a checklist- this is important so you can keep track of your progress and make sure you don’t forget any that may slip your mind during this busy week. Click here for a great example from Martha Stuart.

Tip 2

Have a specific project for each day- that way you can focus and complete each project thoroughly. When there is a lot to do, it can get overwhelming and discouraging if you do not break up your tasks. Every day you will have a small win.

Tip 3

Have all of your cleaning supplies ready- once you look through the checklist, make a list of the items you will need to complete your tasks. Go to the store ahead of time to collect everything you need so you are ready to go before your spring cleaning week.

How to Improve Your Mornings

View From the Alegria
Not everybody wakes up each day ready to conquer the world at the first sound of their alarm. If you have ever said to anyone, “I’m not a morning person.” Take a look at some of the suggestions below and give one or some of them a try and let’s see how you begin to feel about your mornings!
1) Down a Tall Glass of Water: You were just asleep but your body was still working, you are most likely dehydrated. Get yourself back on track.
2) Wake up earlier: By setting your alarm 15 minutes earlier, when it goes off, you will not have to get up and rush to get ready. You can take a moment to gather yourself, move at a more comfortable pace and be ready to go before it is time to go!
3) Set 5 Minutes Aside: Give yourself time to just think. Layout your plan for the day, do so with some music on, sitting outside getting some fresh air and take that moment for yourself to center you for the day.
4) Remove Choices From Your Morning: If you want to enjoy all your morning has to offer, make it habitual. By creating a routine, you will make each morning feel smoother, and they will become simple. In addition to that, you should make decisions the night before: what you will wear, plan out your route to work, what you plan to have for breakfast, etc.
5) Remove Screens: Typically now, your smartphone is how you wake up, you have notifications already from your Facebook, Work email, text messages, etc. You are already overwhelmed, and you just opened your eyes. Give yourself time to get through your morning routine before you interact with your phone, tablet or computer

Tips For Falling Back In Time

This Sunday, November 1st, we will all be setting our clocks back an hour. The week following the time change always seemes a little challenging. There are some easy tips you can follow the week before to try to ease into the time change.

  1. Don’s Stay Up Late- “One of the biggest mistakes that people make … is staying up later and thinking that they’re going to get an extra hour of sleep,” Dr. Rosen. Your body is going to want to wake up earlier the next day so do not count on getting an extra hour of sleep.
  2. Set Your Clock Back Early- Set your clock back one hour a week before the change to get a jumpstart on changing your body clock.
  3. Take Your Time- “If you work a non-traditional schedule, or have a little extra time in the morning, it might ease the transition if you go to sleep and wake up 10-15 minutes later each day the week before the time change,” says Dr. Rosen
