So it’s not just me… I recently read a study that shows people sleep better, suffer less back pain AND experience fewer symptoms of stress when sleeping on a new bed. I love it when science confirms what what we hear from people who sleep on a FloBed.
Oklahoma State University did the study and I read about in Bed Times magazine. They examined a set of stress-related factors that showed significant decreases in stress, decreases that paralleled the improvements in sleep and back discomfort associated with sleeping on a new mattress. To make certain it was the benefit of the bed and not the setting, the new beds were the same size as the participants’ original beds and were in the participants own bedrooms with their own linen and pillows.
The proved what you already knew, you really do feel better physically and mentally sleeping on your new bed.
Q: We tried out the XYZ quilt top pure latex mattress at ABC Carpet and Home store and liked it very much, except for the price. I’m wondering if you’re familiar enough with XYZ’s products to recommend whether it’s possible to create a similar feeling product from your own lineup.
A: The XYZ 7-Zone would be most comparable to one of our vZone mattress blended latex version or natural latex version. Most manufactures are producing some sort of zoned mattress these days to relieve shoulder and hip pressure points or offer additional lumbar support. To match the feel of the XYZ exactly we would need the ILD’s of the latex used.
But rather than trying to match the feel of their 7-Zone, we’d rather build a bed that’s just right for the two of you. While the XYZ may have felt great in the store, the chances of it being the perfect sleeping surface for both of you is slim. Based on your body weight, height and sleeping style, and that of your sleeping partner, we can recommend what we feel would be best for each of you.
Ever wonder about the latex FloBeds uses to make our beds? We’re proud to say we use Talalay latex, a process that produces the finest quality latex available. It’s American made, and is the most resilient, consistent, and breathable latex available.
People who care about the environment and live a green lifestyle want their bed to be all-natural too.
Purchasing a mattress is a significant investment, so here are some tips to help you get the best value when you buy green.
First, know what materials to look for. You’ll avoid mattresses made of environmentally unfriendly materials if you look for organic cotton, untreated wool, natural latex and sustainably harvested pine.
The organic cotton should be where it counts most… next to your body. Organic cotton is the original sustainable fabric, grown and processed with out chemicals.
Mattress covers should include natural wool. Wool is naturally fire and pest resistant, so a blend of wool and cotton is better than cotton-only. Organic wool allows air-flow around your body, and naturally wicks away moisture. You’ll not only sleep cool and dry, but sleep with peace of mind, knowing the wool is the finest wool gathered in the most sheep-friendly way. Organic wool is free of pollutants and harmful substances with zero chemicals used during the growing and processing. There should be wool on all six sides of the mattress.
When you look inside of a green mattress, expect to find certified natural latex. Not foam, not metal springs, just layers of 100% natural latex. 100% natural means there are no petro-chemicals, just natural rubber harvested sustainably from the rubber tree. 100% natural latex is a great green choice as it’s biodegradable and Oekotex Certified.
The wood foundation should be all natural too. Look for foundations made from FSC certified pine sustainably harvested from Ponderosa Pine forests in the western United States and Birch Forests in Western Europe.
Next, learn about the maker of the mattress; this is easy since very few companies specialize in building green mattresses.
Visit their web site to see what they have to say, and ask around to see what their customers say about their products and service. Then call the company and see how much they know about green products and what they’re like to work with.
Once you find a mattress made of quality organic materials, produced by a company with a good reputation for quality and service, find out where to purchase their bed. Most retail mattress stores do not offer all-natural mattresses so the best place to find a green mattress is online. Buying on-line direct from the manufacturer works because you get to really sleep on the bed so you know how your body feels in the morning. Just make certain they have a money back guarantee and will work with you to get ‘just right’.
Buying on-line can also be good for the environment. Ask if the company uses Smart Packaging to save on resources. A king size mattress and foundation can be shipped in just 4 small cartons which saves fuel and trees. And buying direct from the factory saves fuel and distribution costs.
Finally, you can rest easy if you know your green mattress can be recycled at the end of it’s life. Every part of a green sleep system should be 100% recyclable and biodegradable.
FloBeds was the first mattress company to use wool (and no chemicals) to pass the new Federal FR standards.
FloBeds Green Organic Mattresses: Good for you… Good for the whole world.
Did you hear we built a REALLY big dog bed and sent pictures and documentation to Guinness to claim the world’s record for the Largest Dog Bed? It was 7 by 9 ft, bigger than any of our people beds, and made of the same all natural components. Maybe you heard that we took the bed to the Paul Bunyan Days Ugly Dog Contest to see how many dogs we could pile onto it? The answer was 25, 25 dogs of all sizes and shapes shared the bed without mishap. Actually, I did hear from Hairy Putter, Director of Barketing for Mendocino County, that he was momentarily buried under a rather big brute, but no real harm done.
The logical question of course was how about one for my dog? People commented their dog has a FloBed – theirs! But folks have been asking if we’d make him or her one of their own.
So, drum roll please…. introducing FloBeds’ Dog Beds! They come in small, medium and large, just like your dogs. They’re all natural, just like your FloBeds bed, and like our people beds, they’re great for people – I mean dogs – that wake up stiff and sore.
We have two styles, one with just the bed, another that includes bolsters on three sides. A small is 24 x 35 inches, $132 or $225; medium is 30 x 40, $142 or $240, and a large breed bed is 36 x 48, $179 or $308 with bolsters.
But, because you’re among the first to order, you save 25% on our introductory Paul Bunyan Sale. Click HERE to find out more, see the pictures and video, or place your dog bed order.
Life just got a little sweeter and a lot more comfortable for your four-legged friends!
The Wall Street Journal recently discovered what you already know – more products are being made to meet personal preferences. The article says there’s an increased interest in customized goods, ranging from specially made toilet paper to one-of-a-kind pet food. The article even mentions a guy who “rests on a mattress he designed himself.”
It seems younger customers – ones who’ve grown up personalizing their ring tones and building play lists – pretty much expect products to be tailored to suit their needs.
The article describes designing online as highly interactive, something consumers enjoy because it adds a level of excitement that not only makes the best bed, it makes buying it more fun.
FloBeds, pioneers in the eco-friendly mattress industry, and a market leader in organic mattresses, will set the Guinness World Record Labor Day Weekend, for the Largest Dog Bed. The run at the record will take place during Paul Bunyan Days, Fort Bragg’s festival that honors their timber history, the larger-than-life logger, his blue ox, and now Spot, his reversible dog.
FloBeds will make the record-setting dog bed of the same all-natural materials they use in their organic mattresses. That means it will not only be the world’s biggest dog bed, it will also be the most comfortable and most eco-friendly.
The dog bed will be 7 ft by 9 ft – that’s bigger than a king size mattress, bigger than the largest FloBed mattress – and ten times bigger than a large-breed dog bed. The cover will be organic cotton, the pad will be Talalay latex customized for different firmness preferences, just like the beds they make for people. The dog bed will be built at FloBeds, presented at 6:45 during the 1st Friday kick-off party on Friday Sept 3rd, then moved to the Ugly Dog Contest on Saturday.
The record attempts will be documented with pictures and videos, and certified by the City’s Mayor Doug Hammerstrom in accordance with guidelines provided by the Guinness Book of World Records.
FloBeds invites staff, friends and family to the reveal; they’re also inviting people who sleep on a FloBeds mattress to bring their dogs and join them for the record setting events.
Asked why he’s building the world’s biggest dog bed, Dave Turner – the man behind FloBeds – explained, “We think it’s the perfect world record for FloBeds and our hometown. We’ve been celebrating a larger-than life logger for more than 70 years, and we were just named #5 on Dog Fancy Magazine’s list of best dog towns in the country. What makes more sense than setting the record for a really big dog bed?”
