It has been about 6 weeks now since I purchased a Flobeds Zone-on-Point Talalay latex mattress in Full/Std size for my mother. Time to report.

First, shipping. I ordered the mattress by telephone on a Saturday, and the mattress arrived Fedex about 9 days later on a Monday. So only 5 business days from CA to PA. Not bad at all. I was impressed by how fast my order was processed and shipped. The Full/Std mattress arrived in two boxes. Both were in excellent shape, well-taped, and had green stickers saying what was in each. The total shipping weight was about 85 lbs. One box was relatively light; one was heavy and I used a dolly to move it from living room to bedroom.

Second, unpacking. When I opened the first box, the first thing I lifted out looked like a very large latex pillow double-wrapped in thick plastic. Except it weighed about 20 lbs. Turns out it was a vacuum-packed piece of latex. Since the layers are split that means I was sent seven of these latex "pillows", the seventh being the convoluted egg-crate layer that is half as thick as the other layers but is not split. For my 105 lb Mom what was recommended by Flobeds' online "Comfort Advisor" was (Zone | Soft | Medium), so the other six "pillows' were two each of those. I should explain that the Zone is really just another layer of Soft but it includes a 12"-14" zone of Medium in the area where your ribcage rests. Thus your pointy and heavier hips and elbows/shoulders sink into the soft part while your ribcage is held up by the (medium) zone, keeping your spine in alignment. At least I think that's the theory. Also in the boxes was a set of instructions (available online in PDF at http://www.flobeds.com/pdf/LatexOwnersInstructions.pdf) and the mattress case. Oh yeah, and a real latex pillow and set of 300 TC DreamFit sheets I ordered too.

Third, putting it together. The first thing you do is put the empty mattress case on the foundation. (I had previously bought a SmartBase steel foundation). I had read some negative comments about the mattress cases some people had received from other sellers, e.g., that the case was hard and had a plastic feeling. The case from Flobeds couldn't be any more different. It is extremely soft, so soft one could almost sleep directly on the mattress case. The top of the mattress case zips completely off. I did that, laid the rest of the case on the foundation, and pulled its sides down as instructed. That is, one practically pulls the case inside-out so that one can simply lay the latex pieces on a flat surface. The next step is laying the latex. I started with one of the vacuum-packed "pillows" of Medium. It's way cool when you open them - it's like you've pulled the handle on an inflatable life raft. I got my first good look at the Talalay latex. It's beautiful looking, no discoloration or crumbling, and so soft. I couldn't resist squeezing it and thinking of that old "Please don't squeeze the Charmin" commercial. Laying down layers went very quickly. I made both sides (Zone | Soft | Medium), put the convoluted layer on top, then pulled the sides of the mattress case up and zipped its top back on, being careful to push in the flap that protects the latex from the zipper. Voila, instant mattress. Then I put my Mom's Martha Stewart mattress cover on the mattress case to protect it, followed by the sheets and spread. Getting the oversized sheets and the damn dust ruffle on correctly was actually harder than putting the mattress together. Done! Took about 30 minutes.

Fourth, impressions. After the first night my Mom said she thought the mattress was too soft. So I switched the layers around from (Zone | Soft | Medium) to (Medium | Zone | Soft). Big difference. My Mom slept on this configuration for 2-3 weeks without complaint. But I pressed her for her impressions. She hinted that maybe it was still just a little too soft. So I made one side of the bed as firm as could be with the layers I had: (Medium | Medium | Zone). Whoops, too firm. So I switched to (Zone | Medium | Medium). Just right! For the past month my Mom has been sleeping on that configuration w/o any complaints. However, I was bothered by the fact that this leaves the other side of the bed as (Zone | Soft | Soft) - essentially all soft. So I decided to take advantage of Flobeds much-praised layer exchange policy. This past Monday I called, explained the situation, and asked for one piece of Firm. My thinking was that instead of getting two more pieces of Medium to make the whole bed (Zone | Medium | Medium) I'd make the other side (Zone | Soft | Firm). But I was advised to exchange both pieces of Soft for two pieces of Firm. I could then make the entire bed (Zone | Medium | Firm). This is supposed to be only 7% firmer than what my Mom is sleeping on now. Plus, it gives more/better configuration options if heavier relatives come to visit and are given this bed to sleep in.

Final words (for now). I'll start by explaining the way the Flobeds layer exchange works. They'll send the two pieces of Firm and charge $100 security deposit for each piece plus $35, for a total of $235. Included with the two pieces of Firm is a prepaid shipping label in the amount of $35. To pack the two pieces of Soft I'll use a vaccum cleaner and the plastic they came in to vacuum pack them myself. Then I'll use the box and the prepaid shipping label to send the Soft back. When Flobeds gets it they'll credit me the $200 security. Thus the cost for the exchange of two latex pieces is $35. (This mattress is a Full - the cost for other sizes may vary). So it's not free but still much easier and cheaper than what other sellers offer. Also, the 90-day layer exchange period and the option to return the entire mattress are better than what other sellers offer. Both were very important factors in my decision to go with Flobeds. We'll have to see how this process works out (I'm waiting for the Firm to arrive) and what my Mom thinks of the new configuration. The most important thing is that my Mom is sleeping comfortably. She never wakes up with knee or hip pain like she did on her old mattress. I give Flobeds mattresses a big thumbs up.

The people and service at Flobeds, from my experience, have been nothing but a pleasure. We have been sleeping on a FloBed since 2000 and now own many. My only wish in all my travels is that every bed that I have to sleep in was one of yours. Too bad you don't make one to fit in a suitcase. Your beds are well priced and best of all sustainable and Green. Of course I recommend you to any one who will listen and people wonder if I have some part of your business from my zeal. I just like sharing really good things made by really good folks.

Hi, just wanted you to know after 3 months with our new bed, we are absolutely blown away!! Everything and more than we expected. We considered (and tried, as much as possible) the sleep number and the Temperpedic, what a joke! Thanks again, we'll buy another!!

Here is a summary of the first day experience with our new FLOBED package! On arrival I unpacked the six boxes, which took approximately 30 minutes, not a lot of time but the tight fit in boxes was a little challenging to handle for one person my age (66). The foundation installation was rather simple, as was the assembling of the core pads etc. The mattress cover fit like a glove! Only a Stanford scholar could have put such a fine package together!

Some of my muscles ached from the installation process, but I expected a good nights sleep on my Latex FloBed would get rid of my aches and pains. What a wonderful nights sleep! It felt like I was sleeping on “cloud 7”. No hot or cold spots, with good support. Nancy’s medium over firm may need an adjustment to firm over medium, but she will try my side first to test it out.

A great start, with a great product, and I must say the customer service support from FloBed is the best I have experienced in along time!

Okay, I will be completely honest about my doubts. I can't believe that I just bought a mattress that I had never slept on AND spent that much on an ONLINE purchase! Well, thank the Lord I did! WOW! I recieved the bed today and bartered with my husband that if he helped me get it together and gave me ONE hour of sleep then he and my 8yo could go to the movies tonight and I would keep watch of our crazy 2yo. I just woke up from 1 hour of bliss! I will say I had my doubts about my firmness choice, but since you have such a great exchange program and the bed is so easy to swap layers in, I decided not to worry. WOW! I bought med on 2 layers of xtra firm. It is wonderful! It feels very soft to sleep in because I am less than petite, but is wonderfully supportive. I threw my low back out 2 days before Christmas and luckily found a great chiropractor to help me out over the past week. I am standing straight, but very sore across my sacral area and hips. I have been rotating beds throughout the house nightly to try to sleep. YOUR BED IS WONDERFUL!! I also bought a "soft" latex pillow. When I felt it I was certain it would be too soft to give me any support,but I was wrong. I am truly amazed! It was perfect for my side/stomache/back sleep rotation. I can say, as a registered nurse and back pain sufferer, your bed exceeded my expectations for pressure point relief! I am so delighted. I am looking forward to going to bed tonight for the first time in years.

Dear FloBeds,

We’ve had our new FloBed for 3 months now, and I want to write and let you know how it all turned out.

My husband and I didn’t realize how different we are as to the firmness we need to be comfortable. He prefers a firmer surface. After some jostling of layers, he settled in rather comfortably with firm—over his zone layer—over extra firm. He has many clips in his side of the euro-foundation (I have just two under the small of my back). He no longer has to get out of bed at night, just to work the kinks out before returning to bed again.

I started out on a medium-over-medium, which I realized immediately was too firm. So we ordered a soft, which I put over my medium, but that was too soft. Then I returned to the medium-over-medium, but, again, it was too firm. Then I put the soft under the medium, and it was much better. I was much more comfortable with that configuration, but I felt that the effect of my zone had been diminished by the soft layer. That’s when we ordered a custom zone to replace the soft layer. With a 14-inch zone of medium to support my back, and soft above for my painful shoulders, and soft below for my painful lower hips, this zone turned out to be just the answer. First, I put it under the medium. It was an improvement, and my hips were very happy, as they sank into cushy softness, but my shoulders were still hurting. Then I put the new zone on top of the medium, and AT LAST! No pain! I couldn’t believe it... I thought I might just be imagining it. A few days later, I switched the layers back just to find out, and, wow... there was that pain again, and no mistaking it. the next day I retuned the layer to their final resting place: zone—over custom-zone—over medium... and once again, I had no pain when I went to bed last night. I’m ecstatic! I’d come to accept the fact that I’d never find a bed that could make my pain go away... But FloBeds did it. I can’t thank you enough.

You’ve ended my painful nights, and my 10-year search for a bed that will feel good for both of us, and not begin to break-down and cave-in within months of purchase. Neither of us had to sacrifice comfort for the sake of the other, neither did we have to compromise with something in-between... too soft for him, but still too hard for me. Thank you so much.

We made a point of visiting your store while on vacation... I’m so glad we did. Dewey was incredibly helpful, polite, informative, and patient... and has been so, every time we’ve called since. He sold us on your mattress.

I don’t believe there is another mattress company that offers the level of customization and incredibly great service as FloBeds. Your 90-day trial period, your customer service and warranty policies are awesome, and your employees are nice. I believe this is one purchase we’ll be grateful for every night for a very long time.

We've had our beds for almost 3 years, and there are still a couple of times a week that we're sitting up in bed, drinking our morning coffee, 'taking our massage' and one of us will say. "Boy am I glad we got these beds!". They truly are SO comfortable. The Noyo foundation is terrific, with the adjustability of the head and foot areas, and the massage in both areas. Having the two different beds makes it ideal when one of us wants to stay up late reading; the other isn't inconvenienced by having to sit up to sleep. I also found it invaluable when I developed breathing problems that were related to a heart problem, this past Christmas. After getting out of the hospital, I was able to sleep at more of an angle than usual without my husband having to do the same. I'm so glad we did the research and found your website! We'll be enjoying these beds for many more years!

We have had our FloBed for about a year now, and we are VERY happy with it. We tried out about a dozen different stores here locally, with all different types of mattresses. My back and hips used to ache and I could not stay in bed too long because of this discomfort. As soon as we started using your the bed, I started sleeping much better. I have no problems at night falling asleep. The bed is so comfortable, that I can stay in bed longer on the weekends and catch up on my sleep. Even after a year, there is no sagging and my husband and I are comfortable when we lie close together in the middle of the bed. Our old mattress used to sag a little, making it very uncomfortable for us to snuggle up. I also love my latex pillow. I have tried all sorts of pillows, but nothing beats the comfort of my latex one. We were very pleased with the whole experience of ordering the bed. We were surprised to find such a good product on the internet and the 90 night comfort test made it easy. We would heartily recommend these beds and this company.

That was the start of looking for another bed. My boyfriend asked me to wait on purchasing another FloBed because he was going to bring the Flobed we had to my new place. He had decided to purchase a used pillow top bed from a friend for a "great deal". I knew this was a mistake when I took a look at the bed that was waiting in the wings to replace our Flobed. I insisted that before he brought the FloBed to me that he try out this "great deal" of a bed. Let me just say that the two nights that he tried to sleep on the great deal of a bed were the worst nights he has ever had. He didn&apos;t sleep and the whole night he kept fighting the "sink to the middle" sensation! He called the next day to say that I should get another FloBed and that he would chip in to cover the expense. He was also calling his friend to give the great deal of a bed back to his friend. Awesome bed, great company. I am truly grateful that a company like this exists. So very helpful, great listeners, open and honest, highest integrity. The best local dealer could only offer an 8-inch fixed density mattress at twice the price. To me, this is America at its finest. Small business, innovative, care, and integrity. Best company we have ever done business with. The customer service is incredible. My husband and I almost gave up on ever sleeping well until we got the Flo latex mattress. (And if his back is especially bad, we just put the firmer piece on top for a few weeks. We love having the option to do that.) We are buying another one for our guest room.

After much research, I decided to buy the Flobeds Talalay Zone-on-point mattress with the euroslat foundation because of the great flexibility the interchangeable cores offered. My wife and I have vastly different preferences for mattress firmness so this seemed to be a perfect fit. Ordering, shipping (across the country), and assembly were easy. Customer service was great. We even tried the 90 day firmness guarantee, ordering a replacement core on the 88th day, once again recieving great customer service. Most impressive of all, my wife, who is currently 9 months pregnant tells me that she doesn't feel pregnant when she is sleeping on the bed. We're quite impressed and would recommend the Flobed to anyone.

We bought our FloBed 9 months ago+/-. It was, other than our two Shelties, the smartest purchase we have made in quite some time. Customer service was Outstanding and hassle free. We sent three latex pads back to get the firmness we thought we wanted, going hard than softer, than realizing what we had originally was what was the most comfortable. The whole time without any problems what so ever. I love the fact that the mattress cover can be spot-washed. The top cover comes off and if soiled can be cleaned. I never had a conventional mattress I could say that about. We bought the King with the euro slats. I found it hard to believe that the set could be delivered by UPS in 7 boxes but it was. And it was not at all difficult to assemble. Months ago we disposed of the boxes, but we have been negligent in not getting a positive reference your way. After all, you have made our nights wonderful, and this will be the last mattress we should ever need to buy again.

How long have you had it and what is your testimonial? A- Good luck mattress shopping-it took me weeks to decide-but once I did, I was sold and there was no changing my mind. I absolutely LOVE my FloBed. Every morning when I crawl into the bed I am thankful (still). We have had the bed for 2yrs now. I spent weeks trying to decide which mattress was the best deal; comfort, cost, life, etc. I had NO IDEA the bed of my dreams would be right in my backyard! I found http://www.flobeds.com/ online and was ready to pay for shipping and all that good stuff, scrolled down and found they are in Ft Bragg, 1hr from me! It is a HUGE bonus the bed is made with natural materials. I particularly love the fact that the bed is built to my body specs (weight, sleep style). My boyfriend and I are both side sleepers so we picked http://www.flobeds.com/detail.lasso?id=6483QU the posture zone-on-point Talalay mattress. The concept of this design just makes sense to me... I have to tell you, my boyfriend was so leery of this purchase it wasn't even funny-this coming from a guy who can happily sleep on the couch! Turns out he also loves the bed very much! I will ALWAYS have a Flobed-you sink into the mattress perfectly-not too much, just right. I sleep well and I do not wake up with the horrible lower back pain that I used to! Another very nice aspect of this bed is the temperature. I have NEVER slept more comfortably. We have the wool matress cover and I also sprung for the wool comforter and pillows. We now use only sheets and the comforter and we are never too hot or cold - I literally, have never been happier with a large (for me) dollar purchase (other than my lovely Xterra;-) than I am with MY FloBed...I wonder why I haven't written a testimonial... After disastrously trying the "memory foam" and airbed routes, we were so relieved (physically and mentally) to find the natural latex (not the one mixed with petroleum) customizable beds from Flobeds. My husband only liked hard beds til this one (we have soft over medium over extra firm) and he LOVES it which is a miracle in itself. I have spine damage and this is the first and only bed that has helped me to get a full night's sleep in my life. It is not unusual to not roll or wake all night long! Imagine. We have the matching foundation and it is very well built also. We are both very large people and this mattress is so supportive and yet giving. Your body just keeps on "letting go" and relaxing when you lay down and unlike the memory foam it doesn't just keep on sinking all night long so you can't move and are sore in the morning. Absolutely divine. Customer service here was excellent also, they answered a ton of questions on toxicity, firmness, etc. We have had ours over a year now and it is just as wonderful now. Outstanding. We hate to sleep anywhere but home now and are planning on putting the natural latex in our boat also as it just cannot be beat. We are so happy we tried it, we love it. My whole family does.

I see that one of my two "companion humans" wrote a testimonial for our FloBed, but my other "pet" human keeps forgetting, so it is up to I, the intrepid feline of the family to rave about this new mattress. I love it!!!!! I cannot describe the incredible nights' sleep I now get since we got our FloBed. Where sleeping with the male of the pair used to involve me having to move off of the bed every 30 minutes or so, I now can spend the night only having to move off or over once or twice- he is able to sleep comfortably without excess tossing and turning. He says that the level of support,firmness, and comfort is something he never thought he would find, and he raves about the fact that he does not have a nagging backache anymore. That makes me a happy kitty (and a well rested kitty), indeed!! I can't stop purring! FloBed, you have lived up to your reputation, and I have raved to all of the other kitties on the block, urging them to make their "companion humans" get a FloBed for them too. I thought I'd never find a bed that was comfortable. Either years ago, my husband and I purchased what seemed like the perfect bed...at least it seemed perfect in the showroom. First I tried it, then my husband tried it. We both loved it. But when we had it delivered, and we both lay down on it at the same time, it was a disaster. I woke up every time he rolled over. That bed lasted one month and was relegated to our guest room. Our next bed also seemed perfect in the showroom. (We got wise: this time we both lay on it at the same time.) But that bed turned out to be too hard for me. Over the last eight years, I struggled with it, trying to fix the problem with a variety of mattress toppers. The foam ones didn't really work, and the air one sprang a leak after about six months, so I had to keep blowing it back up every night. Finally, in desperation, we began to shop for a new bed. The problem was that my husband liked the harder ones and I liked the softer ones. By chance, I stumbled upon the FloBeds web site. I was fascinated by the idea of being able to design my own mattress with a different hardness on each side. But ordering a mattress from an Internet company? So we checked out FloBeds with the Better Business Bureau, and when they checked out fine, we took a leap of faith and ordered a latex mattress and boxspring from them over the phone. To make a long story short, we are thrilled. My side is softer, my husband's is harder; he can roll over and not wake me up. Our backaches are gone. But there is a problem: We are now totally spoiled. When we are away from home, we miss our FloBed! By the way, the FloBeds customer service folks are great! Thanks FloBeds!!

My bed - firm over medium Natural Talalay Latex, slat foundation. I have had the bed for about 3 months now and love it. Assembly was easy. The foundation is solid. I love the option of different height legs, since I hate high beds!!! I am from Europe and missed my european bed. The usual American coil mattress beds seem to be from the last century. Not only do they look prehistoric, they feel like it too! I was always too hot on other mattresses; not on this one. Totally love this bed. The only problem I had is trying to attach a headboard to the bed. I have a solid oak headboard and the plastic brackets I ordered do not work. Also, since the queen size foundation comes in 2 parts, it would be nice to be able to screw them together or have some sort of a bracket to hold them together. The bed has sliding legs, but I hesitate to move it (for cleaning underneath), since the 2 pieces can move independently.

I have a Antique Bed, with a very unusal shape. I thought I would have to go out of my home town, to find someone who could build a mattress to fit it! But I talked to a local furniture store, and they suggested that I talk to the people at FloBeds. What a WONDERFUL EXPERIENCE! We started using our 100% Talalay Mattress two days ago. The difference in feel versus our old mattress was noticed by both my wife and me. I am not a great sleeper and have noticed a lott of tossing and turning during the night. The last two nights I still wake up but go right back to sleep and have not tossed or turned at all. It is very easy to find a comfortable position. Clearly I am waking up much more rested. The FloBed experience of purchasing on the WEB was scary at first but the service was excellent, putting the mattress together was excellent and the advice on firmness right on.

We have had our queen latex mattress for 1 and a half years now, and we still wake up most mornings commenting about how glad we are to have purchased it. I used to have alot of pain in my shoulders - I thought it was stress, but I guess it was the coil mattress, because it is gone.We have not had any problem with the mattress being too hot; we bought the latex top (vs. memory foam) and the wool and cotton cover. Since we set it up we have not felt the need to change a thing, and we used the firmness selector on your site. We just wanted to give you an update and to thank you so much for your high quality product.

I ordered a queen all-latex mattress and fir-slat foundation from Flobeds, and recieved it this week. Customer service was outstanding. After having some questions answered on the phone, the packages showed up on time and well-packed. Assembly was not difficult, and I was pleased with the quality of workmanship in the foundation, latex, and cover. The latex has a very unique feel, very different from our past spring mattresses. The feel of the bed is difficult to describe; if you haven't slept on a good latex bed before, you'll have to experience it for yourself. The latex is very supportive, yet soft enough to feel VERY comfortable. "Pressure points" and poor support are clearly NOT problems with this mattress. I was tired of feuding with my wife over whether to have a firm or soft mattress. Flobeds bypassed that whole issue with its ability to custom make each side of the bed to our preferences (this was the biggest factor in our choosing Flobeds). The transition from side to side is very subtle, so you don't abruptly "drop off" from the firm to soft side. It is also good to have the option of switching the firmness at any point. Thank you for making a quality product. It is nice to get a good night's rest! By the way, your website was nicely designed and informative (I liked the sheep!). It's been 1 week since I received my FloBed 100% Natural Latex bed. I was a little nervous at first, thinking that it would be harder than I anticipated, and that I might have to return some panels for softer ones. I have 2 each med., firm, xfirm for my queen size mattress.To my surprise, I woke up the next morning in the same position I went to sleep in, and I haven't had any uncomfortable nights. The support is great, and I have no more pressure point pain. Now I can hardly wait to go to hit the mattress each night.Another huge benefit is the hypoallergenic and antimicrobal nature of the mattress. I no longer have the horrible allergic rhinitis (and all that goes with it) that I had with my old mattress. This is important to me since I have severe sleep apnea and use CPAP. Keeping everything open is a must. Your customer service was great, answering all my questions over the phone. I received my bed in 3 days, putting a rapid end to my nighttime misery. Hello! :) ...Zzzzz I purchased a King Talalay mattress set about 6 months ago. I didn't so much seek you out in an attempt to improve my sleep, as I have always seemed to sleep well. But, I did think a fine bed was a most worthy investment, and, after much research, invest I did. I was somewhat nervous of spending a couple thousand dollars on a bed that I had never seen or felt, but it sounded wonderful and made more sense in comparison to other products such as the Comfort Select beds, the memory foam beds, the other latex beds (which seemed to lack quality or consideration), and all the standard beds (and your guarantee helped ease the anxiety). Now, having slept on your Talalay latex bed for most of a year, I must say that it is wonderful! The very first night on it was the most drastic, providing comfort & a quality of sleep in such contrast to what I had experienced, even to what I had always considered good sleep. I used to think that momentarily waking to roll over a couple times a night was normal. Now, I only wake to find it to be a full & bright morning! And, months later, I am sleeping as well as ever! Anyway, I am very happy! Please keep up the good work, keep at the inovation, and keep your important product within relatively easy reach of folks who care much about aspects of life other than pursuing a monetary fortune! Well, we've had our new queen-sized, (med-firm w/7-zone layer) FloBed for about a month & wanted you to about the big impact it has had for us. We've always slept on very firm, "chiropractor-approved" brand-name beds to 'help' my back, but in recent years we both woke up consistently unrefreshed from sleep (lots of tossing and turning because of pressure points) and, frankly, with sore hip & shoulder bones due to the firmness of the mattresses. The FloBed works as advertised -- pressure points are eliminated completely, but there is NO SAGGING feeling, as one experiences in softer wire mattress...my wife, who held out no hope that another mattress could make a difference is passionate about the FloBed (considers it a 'life-altering') event. It is like sleeping on a cloud that accomodates your pressure point protuberances while still keeping your spine aligned - amazing; we wake without back or pressure point pain of any kind & can't wait to go to bed. The website isn't as ascetically appealing as many others, but the product is a home run. Thanks.

Dear FloBeds,

I guess it has been about six months now since our two flobeds arrived. A couple of weeks ago, I did something very important. I went into the garage, pulled out the cardboard boxes that the flobeds had shipped in, and proceeded to cut them up for re-cycling.

Why is it important? I don't intend to ship them back. They are keepers. Both the queen in the motorhome and the king in our bedroom. My wife keeps saying they are the best beds she has ever slept on.

After an extensive effort to find a bed that I didn't have a lower backache from in the morning, I discovered that they all had the same effect on me. The problem isn't the bed. It's my weight and poor physical condition. However, there is no doubt that the Flobed is far and away the most comfortable bed of them all.

I truly have to apologize to you for the hassle over the first bed. When I still had backaches, I figured I could still find a better bed. I couldn't! Not even the highly advertised Tempur-pedic was any better. In fact, I don't even know why anyone would buy one. They are hard and tend to be warm. We are sold on the Flobed. Period!

I love mine after so many disasters with spring and coil t-op of the line mattresses that sagged after 3 years. The part about flobeds is that you BUILD your own bed! Mine has 3 layers, the bottom layer is 100% medium density latex, the middle layer is 100% soft density latex, and the t-op layer is visco elastic memory foam. When the bed arrives you get a 90 day test drive. During that period you can send back any of the layers (simply unzip the lovely padded wool t-op to remove and replace the various foam layers) and try something softer or firmer. You have total control of the level of support. The mattress will NEVER sag...never needs rotating or flipping...it is terrific! Customer service was A-1!! I found tempurpedic to feel like I was sleeping on a ROCK...hated it. Someone who wants extreme support may like that bed. Be warned. Latex comes in infinite densitys! I tried out the Englander and that was also way to hard for me. Just because a bed is 100% latex does not mean that it will feel exactly the same as any other 100% latex bed.

What makes a mattress just right?

June 17 issue — Sooner or later, we all have to buy a new mattress. The choices are confusing: pillow t-op or cushion firm, springs or foam? Being a discriminating shopper means climbing into the sack in the middle of a crowded store while pushy salespeople hover. You make a choice after that brief encounter, and you have to sleep with it for years. At least there’s been one comfortingly simple rule: the firmer the mattress, the better for your back.

OR MAYBE NOT. While this axiom is widely held, it turns out there isn’t scientific evidence to back it up. The conventional wisdom on firmness derives from the days when a good bed was a luxury. “Physicians used to advise people to put a board under the mattress to keep it from sagging,” says Dr. Richard Deyo, a back-pain expert at the University of Washington. In fact, experts say the ideal bunk is not a hard one or a soft one—but a comfy one. It turns out Goldilocks was correct not to sleep in either the Papa Bear’s or Mama Bear’s bed.
So how can you improve your chances of finding that bliss? Americans typically buy a new bed every 10 years. But don’t go by the numbers—listen to your body. Do you wake up stiff, sore or unrested? If you ache in the morning—not just after holding yourself upright all day—your bed may be at fault. An uncomfortable mattress can also keep you active during the night, leaving you weary during the day.
How can you ensure that your new mattress is better than your old one? Begin by abandoning the firmness doctrine. The ideal mattress yields to your contours. But not too much. Side and stomach sleepers tend to need more give than back sleepers. And a woman’s hips will need to sink deeper than a man’s.
When you shop, try lying on your back without a pillow for at least five minutes. The mattress should stay in contact with your body, so that your hand fits snugly into the small of your back. Switch to your side and make sure you don’t notice pressure on your hips or shoulders. None of this is a guarantee. That’s why you should buy with the option to return or exchange—sleep shops like 1-800-MATTRESS and Mattress Discounters (1-800-BUY-A-BED) allow exchanges within 30 or 60 days. One other question – do you no longer sell pillows? I believe when we originally ordered our bed several months ago, you did have a memory foam pillow, or something similar, for neck support. Do you no longer carry it? What pillow might you recommend we look for to focus on neck support?

Well, I think its been about five months now that we have had the Flobed -- a king-size with latex cores, memory foam, and wool topper. I am sorry I haven't written earlier.

You have not solicited my comments, but I feel obligated to write. It is, to me, a great pleasure when I spend my dollars on a product and feel I have received a full measure in return. In this case, I took a chance on a company I located through the internet, spent a considerable amount on a bed I had no opportunity to try out in person, and bypassed all the "safe" buying opportunities of the local market. I couldn't be happier! I believe we have received our money's worth and more.

It is literally a pleasure each night that I go to sleep on our new bed! The feeling is like no other. And, believe me, I know. I travel extensively (I am an airline pilot) and sleep in beds from Europe to California. None come close to the comfort and --- well, "welcoming" feeling of the Flobed.

Believe it or not, as much as I like our new bed, I do believe my wife likes it even more!

I have researched the different "sleeping systems" for months and decided on the European memory foam matress. I ordered the mattress by phone, and the lady who helped me was personable and efficient and professional. As promised the mattress arrived the next day.

It still generates a bit of heat, so fewer blankets are required. All in

I purchased a queen latex/wool bed on 4/26/2000. I am very happy with it. It's great! I do however need to change one panel from medium to firm. Please let me know how I should go about this. I am a well-traveled 58 year old who has tried many mattress styles both in the US and abroad, including some that cost a small fortune. I have never slept on a mattress more comfortable than your Euro cotton & wool latex mattress. It is warm on cool evenings and comfortable on warm evenings, but best of all, it provides just the right amount of support. I no longer toss and turn while going to sleep, and no longer feel pressure points on my hips. I frequently wake up refreshed in the same position I went to sleep in, making me wonder whether I even roll over in my sleep anymore. I did have to go a little firmer than your firmness advisor suggested, but you took care of that for me too. Thank you for an excellent product and great service. I am also extremely happy with your coutour latex pillow. I used both Isotonic and Tempurpedic pillows and found they lost their support within a month or so, besides sleeping a little too warm. I'm into my fourth month with your latex pillow, and it still feels as comfortable and provides the same neck support as it did the first night I slept on it. One suggested improvement is that it is just a little narrow (front to back depth). When I sleep on my side and place my neck on the lower raised portion, my head extends a little beyond the contour causing the higher portion to raise my head a little more than I prefer. I still wouldn't trade it for any of my prior pillows.

I simply want to let you know what a difference your product has made in my life. Every morning, I wake up thanking Gary N, a Chevrolet Sales Manager with whom I worked in the mid-late "80s, for suggesting that I purchase a Somma mattress. I had lumbar disc surgery in 1973 and suffered greatly with the aftermath. After much prompting by Mr. Noble, who declared his own, and his wife's satisfaction with a Somma mattress, I purchased one and was immediately rewarded. Since my initial purchase of a queen-size in 1987, I have had not one episode of muscle spasm in my back. And another benefit: I can sleep in any position I choose, even on my stomach. This position was impossible with a conventional mattress. A chiropractor I was seeing told me a water bed is bad for people with a bad back. Again, thank you for your fine product. The queen is in the guest bedroom as I have a double on which I spend restful, thankful hours. I tell everyone (as Gary N. told me) about my satisfaction with Somma.

Somehow I didn't expect that. But thanks for your quick fix. I thought that it could perhaps be due to our using just the cotton duck cover. Is the other cover (the fancier, more expensive one) thicker and perhaps more protective of the memory foam? Is it common for people to use the memory foam with the simple cotton duck cover?

I was hesitant to order a bed off of the internet but the design of the memory foam mattress sounded like what we were looking for. I have to say that we have a Tempurpedic bed in our Illinois residence and for us it is too firm (there is only one firmness) and I had to wait 21 working days ( over 1 month elapsed time) to get it. Also with Tempurpedic I had to call at least six times to find out the status of my order...we weren't about to go through that again! I really appreciate flo beds quicker delivery and customer service via EMail...and again I love this bed...I didn't have to get used to it like I did with the Tempurpedic!

We recently purchased a Valerie Aire King Size mattress.
In just 1 week, we are VERY satisfied. I have a couple of questions on its function. 1. Your directions state not to be afraid to overinflate- it can't. Is there a pressure relief valve or is this just the flexibility of the air chamber? 2. Can the air hose be disconnected at the mattress? It appears to be a hose type connector, but I did not experiment when assembling. It would be MUCH easier for moving or adjusting the bed to be able to do this. Thank you.

You have a very nice web site. It does everything I would want it to do. Secondly, I am very impressed by the description of your mattresses; how they function, what each component is made of. This description is far better and complete than your competitors. Although it is the second most costly we found, we chose your Valerie Mattress because the it has several different, high quality, layers of different media. I feel that each contributes something different to the comfort and support. And it is one of the two mattresses that has a zippable t-op for removal and cleaning. I sell pulmonary equipment and am very aware that one of the greatest hazards we face is constantly breathing dust mite excrement. Skin cells shed into the mattress provide a virulent breeding ground for dust mists. The constant inhalation of ... is a leading cause of emphysema (without even smoking!). We are looking forward to receiving this mattress soon and replacing our BeautyRest.

Our bed arrived yesterday, we put it together last night (very easy!), and I had the best night's sleep I've had in months! I'm going to love it, no doubt. Sam's side is a little hard though. We dearly love our new bed, but will need to soften up Sam's side. Even at his size, the firm over extra firm makes a pretty hard mattress. He would like to try a medium over firm base. Please let me know what we need to do. The wool filled pillows and comforter are wonderful, too. I haven't slept this well in a very long time.

We received our new cores last night and I installed them. It doesn't take long when you're experienced. I think I could advertise as the local Flo-bed installer in Columbus. Anyway, we noticed a definite difference, an improvement. It's just going to take some time to adjust. We have about 4 cores and a box of glides to send back as soon as we can tape them and call UPS. Please make sure we get credit for them when you receive them.
As a result of our experience, I think your idea of asking customers to indicate on your web site what firmness they are used to is a good idea. It would probably save Flo-beds a lot of inconvenience if you directed them to a firmer mattress rather than a softer one; once a customer accepts and adjusts to a bed, in most cases, he'll be satisfied; however if the initial impression is too firm, you can work downwards rather than the other way. We started, I believe, with convoluted over medium over firm for Linda, an convoluted over firm over extra firm for me. We are now at non-convoluted (?) over super firm over super firm for her and non-convoluted over extra firm over super firm for me. This would suggest at least one step up in your recommendations for persons of our weight and gender. However we may not be typical.
There is another factor to consider, in my view, and that is age. I think it is possible that older customers may prefer a firmer bed for greater back support. Linda's 57 and I'm 60. Maybe you ought to inquire about age ranges, i.e. 30-40, 40-50, etc. However, you have the experience and I'm just a customer intrigued with a unique and high-quality product sold over the internet by a reputable company that is obviously customer-oriented. You can quote me as a reference. Have a great day and we'll let you know how we're sleeping!

Now that we have had our latex bed for about 2 weeks, I finally have a chance to say I don't think you will be getting it back again. With the change to the xtra firm and firm combination I think we have what we want. A latex mattress system does take a bit of getting used to. The first night I slept very, very well, and thought maybe it was still too soft. But now, after two weeks of Susan and myself critically evaluating everything about it from comfort to how it feels to be sleeping on this much rubber, we are hooked.

I just want to tell you that we think our bed is super. As you know, we have a California King with separate air chambers. I have bursitis in my shoulder and stiff hips. After sleeping in one of your beds for a few weeks, my shoulder is better and my hips don't ache nearly as as much anymore. I am not saying I have been cured but the aches are sure a lot less than they were. I have not done anything different in exercise or treatment except to sleep on one of your beds. Our only problem now is when we sleep in another bed when traveling or visiting friends, we sure can tell the difference, yours is so much more comfortable. You will have to come up with a portable bed so we can always sleep in one of your beds. Just kidding. Or replace all beds with your beds. There's a challenge. I wanted to let you know how much my husband and I love the airframe waterbeds we purchased from you. I'm so glad I found your website. We ordered the first queen-sized airframe waterbed for our guest room. One reason we chose the airframe style is that regular sheets fit perfectly, so we didn't have to buy special waterbed sheets. We had a houseguest shortly after setting up the waterbed and she told us it was very comfortable. So my husband and I decided to sleep on it for a couple nights, and we loved it. Then we spent a night on our regular spring mattress. We both woke up in the morning with aching bodies and went back to sleeping in the guest room on the new waterbed. We decided we couldn't go back to sleeping on a conventional bed, so we ordered the semi-waveless airframe waterbed for our bedroom. After sleeping on the waterbed for a couple of weeks, the pains I've had in my shoulders for years were gone! All that time I was suffering from sleeping on an unyielding, too firm mattress.
